Something you may likely not know about me is that I am a trained community herbalist. You may file this into the long list of ‘careers I trained for in earnest but never actually finished’. For a long time that was my way of being…Start a hobby, build a pseudo career, and escape it to find something new.
I’m sure this might appear wishy-washy but it was simply a part of my everyday way of being and–I’ve come to learn–my brain chemistry. What herbalism has in consort with buying La Peetch and building the Courageous Cooking School? A lot more than you might realise.
I found that so much of the work I enjoyed doing was in the deep care of humans. I find ardent joy in the care and nurturing of new thought patterns, offering new flavours and new points of view to the world through the work I do.
My career path may have been serpiginous–seeking solace and art in photography; building community programs for restaurants; managing big programs for financial companies; building non-profit community programs in rural Kenya; becoming a lecturer and adjunct professor for numerous colleges and universities in their International Relations and Business and Social Entrepreneurship programs; birth work where I doula-ed humans, creative projects, and businesses; and now…Whatever it is I do. (Which is somewhere between teaching cooking and teaching humans to expand what they thought was possible.)
