Before you read any of this, or go any farther….
You might be surprised by this post, writ large.
Because, yes, I live in the very glamorous French Riviera (despite not being particularly glamorous myself). Where the likes of yachts and movie stars invade the waters and streets regularly. The land where designer stores look over seaside vistas. And conferences about the movie industry and international real estate reign surpreme.
I’ve learned to shop at Chanel (rarely…it’s a lot a bit out of my pricepoint but I’ve made relationships there because my clients often want appointments) and collect Hermés scarves (I’m partial to twillys for some unknown reason, again simply to help clients get appointments), to pepper obscenely beautiful handbags amid my wardrobe (yes, I do in fact own a number of ‘it bags’, many of which were gifts, and many I have collected). I cook and develop relatively high-end French cuisine for a living, and I am opening the first fine dining restaurant to exist in downtown Grasse in over a decade in a few months.
But…Despite all of that? My favorite time of the year are my weeks in my hoodies, jeans, and Birkenstocks tromping the woods in rural Wisconsin. And that is just a fact.
For me it’s where I go to get away from it all.
Before you scroll away, read the whole thing. My guess is that I’ll have you rushing to make plans to spend a week (or two) here next year. Because I think that juuuust maybe if you like food? You’ll love it here too.
(The photo below is proof of my birkenstock-dom. That is Vera. She’s my 1978 Westfalia that we just moved to Door County…Permanently. So we have a car to drive around and camp in. Turns out, you can take a vintage vehicle with modifications into France. BOOOO!)
Because Door County? Is a Food Paradise like no other in the United States. You’ll have to read on to believe me.
(This post is for paid subscribers only. I cover in the below: a full guide to all the dive bars in Door County…I literally went to every single one so you don’t have to; insight in how to get into one of my top five favorite restaurants in the world and what time you gotta be there to make it happen; the best fried chicken dinner I’ve ever had…and it’s only $13.50; plus where to shop for all the local goodies, and A LOT more)
NEXT WEEK!? We’ll have a whole dang cover reveal for the cookbook…AND a recipe for paid subscribers. And in a month or two? Everyone get’s the big reveal. But for now…
The foodie guide to Door County, Wisconsin. You should go. Trust me.
