More and more I find myself returning to the kitchen in these moments. The day the election results were released, I found myself making ratatouille, the long way. I recently moved to Paris, so I’m learning some of the classics. The meditative chopping, sautéing vegetable by vegetable over a couple hours was exactly the thing I needed to not fix the day. There’s no going back from that day. But at least I was able to reconnect with myself again, in the kitchen.
This is 100% what I do, especially when Brandon isn’t home. And sometimes it is snacks, but I hate throwing away produce I lovingly selected, so that usually inspired me to make… something… with it. :)
Garbanzos are the best, and so gentle on the stomach. Just what is needed in this chaotic time when we need comfort.
Thank you for this post. I consider you a cooking goddess, so it was reassuring to know that some of the stuff I throw together for lack of energy to go shopping, can also be considered a meditation on food. I would imagine your results might be better than mine, but with the help of courageous cooking, I’m getting better. I sometimes find just making the omelette we learned from you at La Peetch calms my soul too. 🙏
oh yes this is really what i do too! I have also big fan of the chickpeas salads that make for a quick lunch ( currently canned chickpeas/ finely cut red cabbage/ red onions/ herbs/ dressing/ sometimes feta too).
❤️. Today I am simmering 4 kinds of dried beans to use in hubby's chili tonight. Preordered your book. After doing river cruises in the Burgundy and Provence areas last year, I'm focusing on that style of food. Cannot wait!

Welcome to France! I hope the bureaucracy has been kind to you.
I think cooking is what will save me for the next four years. <3
I couldn’t agree more on the cooking part. It has been and will be my refuge for this era.
The bureaucracy hasn’t gotten me down yet. It’s honestly better than Portugal’s systems so I’ll take it!

I’m glad I’m not alone in this. <3

I appreciate the high praise! But I too, am human, and sometimes just have to f**king feed the family, without the fancy things. <3
